Support for Queer people (LGBTQ)
Samtökin ’78 is the National Queer Association of Iceland – for all queer persons regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics or gender expression. They offer social counselling to queer people, their families and professionals. Their counsellors have extensive experience working with queer people. No issue is too big or too small to discuss with them. The first three hours of counseling are free of cost. If you want to receive additional counseling, you can negotiate the payment or even receive a subsidy payment from the government.
Their place is wheelchair accessible. All events for the organization are in wheelchair-accessible buildings. Samtökin ’78 offer access to interpreters and sign language interpreters when needed.
Samtökin ’78 is located at Suðurgata 3 in Reykjavík. They are open weekdays from 1 pm to 4 pm. It is best to book a time on their website. You can also call them at the phone number 5527878 or send an email to skrifstofa@samtokin78.is.

Information about domestic violence for queer persons
Religious abuse
When someone uses a spiritual practice or religion to frighten you, hurt you or control you, it is called religious abuse.
Honor-based abuse
Honor-based abuse is when someone, usually a close relative, inflicts abuse on you to protect the honor of the family. When honor is set above your human rights, that is abuse.
