112 dagurinn

On February 11th every year, Neyðarlínan (The Icelandic Emergency Line) celebrates 112 Day to remind everyone of the emergency numbers of all Icelanders.

Neyðarlínan celebrates 112 on February 11th every year because the date 11. 2. reminds us of the emergency number of all Icelanders, 112. It is important to remind people of the number because it is the only number that Icelanders need to know in times of an emergency.

Children can be fantastic role models when it comes to safety and prevention, and therefore the theme of 112 Day 2025 will be Children and Safety.

Children can be role models in many ways in everyday life, such as when they wear reflectors or a helmet when cycling. When they fasten their seat belts in cars and, of course, when they remind adults not to be on their phones while driving. Children are also assistants to the fire brigade in kindergarten and primary school and are excellent callers when they call the emergency line.

The Day of Icelandic Sign Language is also celebrated on February 11th every year and the program will be interpreted in sign language.
